Mary Goodwin Sampson, who helped build the
Sampson House,
passed away in the 1920s. Soon after that the house became home to her grandson, George Nalle, Sr. (son of Ernest Nalle and
Georgia Sampson), and his
bride, Ouida Ferguson (daughter of Governors
"
Ma"
and
"Pa" Ferguson). The two had courted amid impeachment proceedings against
Ouida's father.
If you compare this map with the
1900 map of this block, you'll notice some similarity between the
apartment house on this map, at 1006 Nueces, and the Henricks House on the earlier map, at 1007 Rio Grande.
In the 1920s, it was rolled down the hill to face Nueces.
