A few more buildings have turned up. The house on West 9th, near the
Campbell-Miller House, was for several years the home of Eugene T. Deats, a
fellow firefighter and partner of Thomas Campbell. In November 1877,
Deats was injured in a fire at the Blind Asylum, and six months later he
became the first Austin firefighter to die of injuries sustained in the line
of dury.
